I showed this picture to my students while telling them a little about me.  This is a picture of me and 3 of my teammates at the 2009 National Championships in Arizona.  The Oregon Ducks were awarded 2nd place in the country, and the four in this picture were selected to be on the All-Tournament Team.  At this point in my life, I could’ve run for days and not been tired.  Basically, we were in awesome shape.  This is not me tooting my own horn, but I’m just trying to give you an idea of our fitness level in this picture.

Then a student yelled out, “you are very fat!”  I pointed to myself in the picture and said, “I am fat?!”  Then everyone in the class joyously responded, “everyone in the picture is very fat!” and then they started laughing.

Chinese perceptions of what is “fat” never ceases to amaze me.

  1. Well, judging from this picture you really all could afford to lose a couple pounds. 🙂

As usual, reasonable/nature is being unreasonable. You are beautiful! I am leaving this blog up on my computer just so I can see your picture. I miss you ):
